Introducing Uzbekistan and its business opportunities
The Republic of Uzbekistan is a Muslim country but with a full democracy located in the heart of Central Asia with a population of over 38 million people as the most populous country in Central Asia. The population of this country alone is equal to the combined population of the Central Asian countries, namely Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. The presence in this large and increasingly developing consumer market in all fields will be considered a great and important advantage because this country has direct economic and trade relations with all the countries of the region and neighboring countries, as well as all European and American countries. In fact, by entering the Uzbekistan market, you can easily gain a share of the market of other Central Asian countries, meaning that by entering the commercial consumer market of Uzbekistan, you are dealing with a population of about one hundred million people, which will be a great advantage compared to the markets of countries such as Iraq and Oman. Given the geographical and religious similarities between the two countries, there is a special interest and enthusiasm (especially in the cities of Samarkand and Bukhara) for Iranian products and productions.
The country has embarked on extensive political and economic reforms, especially after the presidency of Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev in 2017. This has also led to the improvement of the country’s relations with neighboring Islamic countries, especially Western countries. As a result, this trend has resulted in significant economic growth in the Uzbek economy, which is unprecedented in the country’s history. This has also paved the way for attracting foreign investment, so that from $809 million in foreign direct investment in 2015, the country was able to attract $2.28 billion in direct investment in 2020. According to the World Bank, the inflation rate in Uzbekistan is 18 percent, and the State Statistics Committee announces a figure between 10 and 15 percent. The average wage in Uzbekistan for workers is about $250 per month, and in the center of the country, the city of Tashkent, this figure is $330. In 2020, the country’s total imports were $22 billion, an almost double increase from $9.1 billion in 2017, indicating the country’s enormous market capacity.
